Research Team

Dr. Luis Nacul

Dr. Luis Nacul (MD, PhD) is the Principal Investigator of the Complex Chronic Diseases Research Program. He is a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of British Columbia. He has been researching ME/CFS internationally, and practicing as a general physician and in the field of ME/CFS and other complex chronic diseases. He also has been the co-founder and Director of CureME Research Programme at the Clinical Research Department, at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine in the UK. Dr Nacul has worked in in Brazil, UK and Canada, where he had served as medical director for CCDP for nearly 4 years.

In addition to clinical and research work, with emphasis on chronic and disabling diseases, he has contributed to teaching and supervision of doctors and researchers. He is a Board Member of the International Association of ME/CFS, and has contributed to various committees in the field of ME/CFS, such as EUROMENE, NICE Guidelines development committee on ME/CFS, ICanCME (as network executive) and UK ME/CFS Biobank Steering Committee.

Travis Boulter

Travis is the Research Coordinator for the Complex Chronic Diseases Program’s research team connected to the Women’s Health Research Institute at BC Women’s Hospital + Health Center. He completed a BA in Psychology at Simon Fraser University in 2017, and have been working in the area of public health research since 2018. Travis has been with the CCDP since 2019. His current research interests are in the initiation of clinical trials for new treatments from the management of symptoms associated with Myalgic Encephalomyelitis, Fibromyalgia, and Post Viral Fatigue Syndrome. Outside of work and research, he spends a lot of time learning about botany/mycology, building electronics, geology, baking, and trying to make the best cup of coffee. Travis also has two cats (Mini-Wheat & Bagheera) and a pet snail named Henry.

Jaymie Cristobal

Jaymie is a Research Project Assistant for the Complex Chronic Disease Research Program. She recently completed her Bachelor’s in Psychology at Simon Fraser University in June 2023. Her areas of research interests include studying the determinants of health in complex chronic conditions and brain injuries. She is also interested in knowledge translation and the intersection between art/design and science. Outside of WHRI, you’ll likely find Jaymie exploring Vancouver’s ramen spots, hiking and spending time with her dog, Ruby.
